Brangus cattle are a mix of two main breeds i.e. Angus and Brahman cattle breed. It is an interesting beef breed. The ratio of these two breeds in Brangus cattle is found to be 37.5% Brahman and 62.5% Angus. Both of the parent breeds have very good beef quality. This is an attractive breed by looks and by characteristics. In USA, this breed was recognized by Brangus breeding association in the year 1949. Initially, this association was named as “American Brangus Association” in 1949. As it is the combination of two famous breeds, so the characteristics are also in combination.

These cattle can survive in both the environments like cold and hot climates. Their thick coat provides them protection. These cattle have strong immunity and can resist against various common bovine diseases. Ticks and bloats are rarely found in Brangus cattle. These cattle are very much possessive about their calves. These cattle are very good mothers and this trait comes from Brahman cattle. These cattle are very good at fertility and milk production. The temperament of these cattle is pleasant and calm. The quality of Brangus cattle is very fine and these cattle gain weight fast as compared to other breeds.

Brangus Cattle Cons


Along with the advantages, these cattle also have some disadvantages. The main disadvantage is the fertility. These cattle get mature lately as compared to other breeds. Brangus cattle start breeding after the age of 14 months which is a main drawback. These cattle usually produce their first calf in the 2nd year of their age. The other main disadvantage of this breed is, Brangus cows are overly protective about their calves. These cows do not let anyone get close to their calves and if someone tries to get close, these cattle get angry and can harm that person.

The two good quality beef cattle breeds are bred to obtain Brangus cattle. So the quality of their meat is very good. These cattle are heavy and a Brangus bull may weigh up to 900 kg while a Brangus cow may weigh up to 500 kg. Bulls are usually heavier than cows. The color of these cattle available is either completely red or completely black. The purity of color shows the purity of breed. These cattle are naturally polled and farmers do not have to make effort of dehorning them.

The price of these cattle may differ according to the area, age, color, weight and availability of these cattle breed. The average prices of these cattle are as follows;

  • Four open heifers are sold on an average rate of 11,875 dollars,
  • Fourteen bred heifers are sold at an average price of 4,161 dollars. 
  • Thirty three bred cows are sold at an average price of 5,848 dollars. 
  • Fifteen spring pairs are sold at an average price of 6,450 dollars. 


All of the above mentioned Brangus are purebred and have a defined color indicating their pure breed.
