Orpingtons come in several different types, and one of them is the Buff Orpington chicken. They're not the original Orpingtons. This honor goes to the Black Orpington, which William Cook created in the 1880s in the English town of Orpington, County Kent. 

After some time had passed, Cook developed the Buff Orpington using an entirely different breed. The Buff Orpington originated from the crossover of Golden Spangled Hamburgs, Buff Cochins, and Dark Dorkings, as opposed to the Black Orpington, which was produced by crossing Black Minorcas, Black Plymouth Rocks, and Langshans.

Chickens of the Buff Orpington breed can tolerate being confined to a run. However, it is important to keep in mind that these larger-than-average birds require a larger-than-average room in their run.
