The German Shorthaired Pointer, or GSP as it is commonly known, is a large hunting breed that originated in Germany in the nineteenth century. It possesses a well-balanced body,  medium-sized almond-shaped eyes with an intelligent look, a clean-cut head, wide ears that are set high, a long muzzle, and a firm tail that is set high. German Pointers, like this one, are known for their webbed feet, which allow them to swim and hunt waterfowl with ease.

Great Danes and Pointers are mostly bred to produce a new, hybrid dog breed known as the Great Dane Pointer Mix. These two distinct breeds often complement each other nicely. Both of these dogs are extremely friendly. Due to their intelligence and high level of energy, German Shorthaired Pointer/Great Dane mix dogs require regular mental and physical stimulation to remain happy. They are always ready to engage in physical pursuits like running, swimming, competitive dog sports, or anything else that helps them expend some of their limitless energy while enjoying the outdoors with a human companion.

The GSP is a slightly smaller breed of Pointer with an elegantly chiseled head, large, dark nose, intelligent, amusing expression, and dark almond-shaped eyes. The ears are large and hang low, resting high on the head. Typically, the tail is docked to about 40 percent of its original length.

German Shorthaired Pointer Great Dane Mix Size

The German Shorthaired Pointer is a medium-sized dog that weighs between 45 to 70 pounds and stands between 22 to 24 inches tall (20 to 32 kilograms). The German Shorthaired Pointer is the perfect size for a running companion, yet is still small and manageable enough to live comfortably in most homes.

Due to its genetic makeup as a cross between the giant Great Dane and the medium to large German Shorthaired Pointer, a German Shorthaired Pointer Great Dane Mix is expected to reach the same length as either of its parent breeds. The average height and weight for a German Shorthaired Pointer Great Dane Mix are 25–30 inches and 75–120 pounds, respectively.

German Shorthaired Pointer Great Dane Mix Temperament

Short-haired German Pointer Great Dane Mix breeds are known for their calm, quiet, and peaceful personalities. For this reason, they make great companions as well as guard dogs due to their sociability, low levels of aggression, and low levels of barking (except when meeting new people). Despite their independence, this hybrid prefers a quieter, more peaceful home environment. However, as a social breed, it becomes destructive if left alone for too long. It engages in destructive behavior by biting and gnawing at various items found inside the home. Consequently, it is best for the owner to invest the necessary time and effort in order to satisfy this puppy's desire for an attentive, loving master. This dog requires daily exercise and access to a yard of a reasonable size due to its intelligence and playfulness.

German Shorthaired Pointer Great Dane Mix Lifespan

Like other breeds of dogs with floppy ears, GSPs need to get their ears checked and cleaned on a regular basis to prevent infections. The median lifespan of the GSP is nine years. The lifespan of German shorthaired pointer Great Dane Mix is somewhat closer to that of their parent breeds because they are a hybrid of two distinct purebreds, whose average lifespans differ greatly. Therefore, the average lifespan of a German Shorthaired Pointer Great Dane Mix is approximately 11 to 13 years.
